slash race....
« on: August 13, 2008, 09:55:01 PM »
I went to the track to see the slash class. A friend wanted to get his 13 year old nephew into something fun besides trouble.  He was really getting into the idea until we went there. We found that the only race of the day that was completely rediculous was the slash class. It was nothing more than a crash up derby and screw off session. He was really looking foward to doing something with his uncle, and it was a real let down.
People were going backwards, racing the wrong direction, crashing into other people on purpose, even the marshals were getting into it.....putting brooms on the track...blocks...it was just a joke.
I have to say I was sort of getting into the idea of getting an out of the box truck that was the same as every other in the class....everyone is competitive.  Had quite a few friends thinking of doing it with us......but a slash class for racing doesn't exist.

You unfortunately caught a night where there was a lot of goofing off going on.  Ordinarily the Slash clash does have some fender rubbing going on, but mostly its a great spec type class with everyone running the same motor and speedo combo.  It is a great way to even the playing field and leave it up to the most consistent driver to take the win.  If you get a chance come on down again and run a Slash out there and check out some more racing before you swear it off completely.  If they still don't float your boat, there is definitely the Limited Truck class to get involved in.

Thanks for not being silent about your displeasure.  We can't grow and get better if we don't hear these things.

Thanks,
Todd

Sorry about that.  We all just wanted to hit each other that night.  Usually the slash race is much better and can be less crash night.  Don't get discouraged and give up on getting it.  Even using it in the backyard is a big blast.  I've jumped mine off of a 6 ft wall I have and have not broken it.

i'm not swearing off it yet....I WAS impressed at the f'in beating those things take !!  I went on you tube and seen them take a thrashing like i wouldn't have thought possible.  Impressive to say the least.
But if you say that I caught ya on an off night.....then maybe another trip down to watch won't hurt.
But....you see my point, Dad puts $300-$400 into an r/c toy for his kid to race.....kid gets all excited, and then a huge let down when noone takes it seriously.  And to top it off....everyone smashes his new toy that he thinks is the best thing since sliced bread.
I think I will come check it out again.....I hope it's worth the ride.

You could also check out the SPeedspec class on Tuesday nights that run the same way, spec chassis, motor and body....and the bodies are all the cool ones you never get to run.

If you come down somebody would easily let you test drive a car...I know I would.

speed spec ??   forgive me.....i am not familiar with r/c stuff anymore.  I used to work at a hobby store when I was like 14.....but that was a lifetime ago !   Everything is new to me now.  And I have to say.....a lot different !  Brushless....lipo....RTR kits....it's a whole new world.
I was just atracted to the slash class 'cuz it was all the same ride.....just different drivers.  Plus it was cheap....I spend enough time and money racing for real. This was just something to do in the down time...if there is such a thing.

Speedspec is the carpet racing class, running a Speedmerchant Speedspec chassis, any 200 mm body, but we choose a theme for each 15 week point series so we have some variety and it looks cool to see cuda's racing mustangs.  Batteries are 4 cell, and I use one pack for the entire night and have no issues. As far as motors, we use mabuchi silver cans or the novak 21T brushless.  ITs a great class because the cars are quick but not to crazy, and it basically comes down to driver in the end.  and its tons of fun.

All I have to say is that I raced the Slash class last thur and it was the most fun I have had Rc racing in a long time. There was no bashing or messing around just lots of fun. It was so much fun at the end of the night I went right up to Todd and bought my own so i can race every thur. Its definitely worth checking out again. I have been out of rc racing for over a year now and it brought me right back. Thanks Guys.

Racing these slashes seems like a great time, i was thinking about getting one, but i was wondering if these are going to be another class that gets big, guys have fun, then it kind of dies.  ive seen it happen before with others like the mini coopers and the such, so i guess my question is, how many guys are going to be racing these things on a regular basis.  it would be cool to get one and have a steady class of 8 or more guys running on thursday nights, but to show up and have two or three, might kinda start to suck.  Just looking for some thoughts!!

for racing yeah it not the best. traxxas is a basher company. there ment to be fun. if you had broken any parts on it i dont know how you did it. i had my rustler for 3 years(i was like 11ish) and all i broke was a tranmistion gear.

yes i know its bad spelling and probably grammer too.
gt2,t4,bk2.

i went out west(Wyoming, south Dakota,Utah,Montana,Idaho) and i suggest going at least once in your lifetime.it is the most beautiful scenery u will ever see.
